WIAW: Delights & Disappointments

Guess what!

It’s time for another edition of What I Ate Wednesday!

I love love love seeing WIAW taking blogland by storm. It’s so much fun to get a glimpse of the delicious eats my fellow bloggers are enjoying and I love the inspiration and ideas I get for my own meals!

Be sure to stop by the party and show some comment love to our gracious hostess, my twin veggie lover, Jenn of Peas & Crayons!

Breakfast (7:30am)
Chelsea’s Zucchini Bread Oats
topped with coconut, raisins, and Barbara’s cinnamon puffins (since I already demolished all of my leftover zucchini bread!)

FULL caf coffee & vitamin candy

DELIGHT!Β

Loved this bowl of oats…subtly sweet with the perfect amount of spice!

Just like a creamy bowl of zucchini bread!

Lunch (11:45am)
That my friends would be a veggie burger stuffed into a hot dog bun…hey, use what you’ve got, right? There’s also some spicy hummus in there but shh! it’s hiding! πŸ˜‰

DELIGHT!

C’mon, what’s not to love? It’s a “burger dog”! πŸ™‚

I also had (unpictured) corn on the cob coated with Earth Balance and lots-o-peppa

and a farmer’s market peach for dessert!

Post Workout Snack (5:00pm)
About Time Birthday Cake flavored whey protein + water

=

DISAPPOINTMENT!
It didn’t taste a THING like birthday cake! πŸ™

Snack (6:00pm)

I was so excited to find golden kiwi at the supermarket over the weekend. Even though I’m allergic to green kiwi, I’ve heard that it’s possible to NOT be allergic to the golden variety.

So, with a couple of Benedryl on stand by, I gave it a go…

Good news……….I’m NOT allergic to golden kiwi!

Bad news………………..golden kiwi does NOT taste like regular kiwi!

DISAPPOINTMENT!Β

Dinner (7:00pm)
Curry Coconut Salmon over Cinnamon Spiked Coconut Grains with steamed spinach and roasted purple sweet potatoes.

DEEEEEEEEEEEEEELIGHT!

Recipe coming soon!

Water: 2.5 Liters

DISAPPOINTMENT
Only because I know there were a few times today that I was SUPER thirsty but kept forgetting to refill my water bottle! Grr!

What was your last delight?…disappointment?Β

My last delight was my post run smoothie I made! Consisting of; 1 frozen banana, like 4 kale stems, almond milk, and a scoop of chocolate protein powder. My tummy is happy full and nutritious :)!

Last disappointment? Bending over near tears in cramps after I got off work. The boy-friend got me some ibuprofen and a bowl of ice-cream and I was as good as new though haha!

ps. I’m officially addicted to dates and sunflower butter thanks to you!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ice cream and ibuprofen…sounds like the perfect prescription! πŸ™‚ Love the shake too! Have you ever tried the same combo with a spoonful of PB in it? Mmmm!

Haha! Glad to hear you are a recent date and SSB convert! Muhahaha! πŸ˜‰

  2. i have a few about time protein samples left but haven’t tried the birthday cake flavor. i was saving it for the perfect opportunity. i’m sad to hear it didn’t taste like bday cake. maybe it would be better used in baked goods??

  3. I bought some hot dog rolls the other week and decided they were my new favorite thing to use as bread. I love how all the good stuff…uh…falls down into the crack…lol.
And golden kiwi? You’re always introducing me to new things – I never knew golden kiwi existed!
Since my day just started, my biggest delight is breakfast! A “banana split.” But…I think breakfast is always my biggest delight no matter what, haha. Unfortunately, though, I think I was a little too heavy-handed with the stevia in my coffee. A little disappointing :\

  4. That dinner looks purely epic.

  5. katie says:

The curry coconut salmon, now that sounds delightful! Yum!!!!

I have heard that protein powder is good, and Im wanting to try it, but I think I will stick with my beloved sunwarrior!

    Happy WIAW!!

    xoxo

  6. Errign says:

That salmon sounds amazinggggg. I like the taste of the About Time that I’ve tried, but I don’t think it mixes that well!

  7. Oh my goodness, that dinner looks amazing! So jealous. πŸ™‚

  8. Pepper says:

    That salmon looks amazing!

  9. Wait.. I didn’t know if you were allergic to kiwi you could have a golden one? My bf is sooo allergic to regular kiwis! I am going to suggest this to him though he prob will say the same thing as you “it doesn’t taste like a regular kiwi!”.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah…it’s probably good if you go into it thinking, “this is a new to me fruit and it looks delicious” not “this BETTER taste like something else and not make my lips swell!” Lol!

  10. Kelsey says:

    those oats…YUM!

And I’ve never tried purple sweet potato before…I’m so intrigued! What’s it like?

I threw together a dinner on Tuesday that was a huge disappointment. Sometimes I like the challenge of working with what’s in my cupboard, and sometimes I really should have gone to the store haha!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! I definitely know what you mean girlie! Sometimes it’s so much of a surprise how things/flavors come together and then other times it seems like no matter what you add to the dish, it just tastes blah!

I couldn’t really tell any difference in the purple sweet p vs a regular one but it sure was pretty to look at! πŸ˜‰ LOL

  11. Yumm love the breakfast! My last delight were my OIAJ πŸ˜€

  12. Awww I’m sorry for the disappointments. I’m a little skeptical about protein powder that tastes like b-day cake… Weird! Sad it didn’t taste so great πŸ™

Recent delight: Those honey squares from Fiber One! They’re really good!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ohhh, I hadn’t heard of those so I just Googled it (I totally Google everything! Haha!) They look so good! And that’s a pretty stellar nutrition label too! Glad they finally got away from adding the HFCS!

  13. Alexis says:

Your dinner- YUM. It looks so awesome. I’ve been wanting to try that birthday cake protein powder! I love birthday cake flavored things πŸ™‚
My last delight was the cantaloupe I just downed. It was at that perfect ripeness

  14. I’ve never come across yellow kiwi. I would love to know how it compares to regular kiwi.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

It’s kind of hard to describe…it’s definitely sweeter, but it doesn’t really have that distinct “kiwi taste” that I was hoping for! πŸ™

  15. Lauren says:

Golden kiwi? Purple sweet potatoes? Send me some of both please!! My last delight was the patty pan squash I cooked last night. Those things are so dang cute!

  16. ahhhh your salmon dinner looks amazing, my tums a rumblin’ now.

there is literally nothing worst for me than food disappointment. espesh when you look forward to something all day… I was nearly in tears the other day when my cereal was a stale let down… such a breakfast diva.

  17. I’m tweeting you right now to find out what kind of veg burger that is — it looks AWESOME!!! and I have totally eaten many random things on hotdog buns so i’m right there with ya! hehe! PB+J for one… lol!

  18. It’s a good thing I finished eating dinner not too long ago (delight! sweet and savory oats), or I’d be seriously hungry right now… Although I DO have this inexplicable craving for fresh peaches… it’s just too bad that we can’t get them at the farmer’s market over here… I don’t think peaches grow in our chilly weather πŸ™ But I can’t complain ’cause I’ve been pretty lucky with the eats lately… most of it has been deee-lightful. But that’s probably because I’ve been eating pretty much the same thing on a daily basis lol. I’ve just been too busy to really think about making anything new.

  19. Dinner looks beautiful! I can’t remember my last disappointment, my last delight was my socca pizza. Is it too much to want it again after having it twice in the last 3 days?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Of course not! With all this talk about socca pizza, you have SERIOUSLY got me craving some too! It’s been too long since I’ve made one!

  20. Your dinner is gorgeous! The most delightful thing I ate this morning was breakfastβ€”chocolate chia oats topped with lots of berries. The smoked mozzarella I put on my veggie burger at dinner was kind of a bummer, though. It just didn’t melt right : (

  21. Cherie says:

Zucchini bread oats… SOUND AMAZING! must try!
Birthday cake flavoured whey.. oh my gosh. What an awesome flavour.. of course more awesome if it had of actually tasted like it.

  22. Megan says:

Haha I love that you stuffed a veggie burger in a hot dog bun πŸ˜› I wanna try that!
I’ve been thinking about adding fish into my diet, I sort of get cravings for it out of nowhere so I may give it a shot. How did you prepare that? ANything with coconut and curry is a winner in my book! I would LOVE to try it.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

It was a fairly simple recipe actually! I’ll be posting it soon!

Fish in a hot dog bun could work too ya know…just saying! πŸ˜‰ Haha!

  23. Meri says:

well, after a roller coaster kind of food day, at least you ended up with a delicious looking dinner! I hate when I’m really excited about a new product and then disappointed (for me its most often a new cereal or flavor of a nutrition bar or something). I have noticed, however, that if I give certain foods a second shot without all of the expectation, sometimes I end up really liking them!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yes, I completely agree! If it weren’t for second tries, I would never have developed my love for nooch…or sunflower seed butter…or kombucha! Haha!

  24. Thanks for the shout out girl! πŸ™‚ I’m so glad you liked the oatmeal.

That coconut salmon + grains sounds amazing! I can’t wait for the recipe.

My last delight was the granola that just came out of my oven. And a disappointment was going shopping this afternoon and walking out empty handed. I’m too indecisive when it comes to clothes shopping!
